The course covers all four communication skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
The General French Course is the starting point for new learners, providing a solid foundation in French that is useful wherever you are going or wherever the next step in your learning journey takes you.

Communicative Approach
The communicative approach, also known as the natural approach, emphasizes the ability to communicate naturally by factoring in the communication situation. Students are not taught isolated words or grammatical structures, but learn through communication tasks in specific contexts.
Importance of Oral Communication
Oral communication is an important skill that we value at the Canada Language Centre. Although all four skills are covered in our program, activities related to oral comprehension and oral production take precedence.
Learning Grammar
We favor an approach whereby students discover grammar rules by induction. This requires students to be active in their learning. The teacher leads and helps students to discover the grammatical rules by themselves, and then, the rules are confirmed in a more explicit form by the teacher.
Homework
We assign homework between lessons, consisting of grammar drills, reading, writing or listening exercises. Assignments reinforce the concepts learned in class and provide continuity.

Course Description
Group French Classes
The General French Course focuses on standard French, which is useful everywhere French is spoken. The content covered in the General French Course follow the guidelines provided by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages as well as the Canadian Language Benchmarks. Employers, governments, and other organizations will recognize and accept your proficiency level since the course adheres to established language-level guidelines.
In addition to providing you with a strong foundation in French communication, your lessons align with language certification exams and include activities that assist in exam preparation in the event that you have to take a language proficiency assessment in the future.
Group Class Schedule: The course consists of two 90-minute classes per week, for a total of three hours of teaching per week. Usually, schedules are Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays. The teacher sets the precise schedule by considering the students' availabilities.
Group Plus - Extra Practice and Support: You can also choose to add a once-weekly thirty-minute private session with your instructor. During this time, you will review concepts seen in the group lessons and obtain addional practice on your speaking skills.
