English for Academic Purposes is designed as an intensive course that prepares students to succeed in demanding English language academic environments.
The course focuses on developing reading, writing and listening skills through authentic academic material.

Course Strategy
Reading, Writing and Listening Skills
The course focuses on the language skills required for success in an academic setting. We use reading drills emphasizing comprehension of academic texts, writing tasks to develop proper styles and forms for academia, and listening of lecture-style audio and video recordings.
Authentic Source Material
The printed, audio, and video materials used in the course are drawn from real-life situations, employ authentic speech patterns and accents, and are tailored to meet the course objectives.
Learning Grammar
We favor an approach whereby students discover grammar rules by induction. This requires students to be active in their learning. The teacher leads and helps students to discover the grammatical rules by themselves, and then, the rules are confirmed in a more explicit form by the teacher.
Homework
We assign homework between lessons, consisting of grammar drills, reading, writing and listening exercises. These assignments reinforce the concepts learned in class and provide continuity.

This course is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and professionals who wish to improve their English language skills for academic purposes, such as writing research papers, delivering presentations, and attending seminars.
Key topics addressed in the course include academic writing conventions, critical reading and analysis, oral presentations, academic discussions, and the expansion of academic vocabulary. Students will also have the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the Canadian culture and its academic practices, acquiring a deeper understanding of the academic climate in English-speaking institutions.
